- 7. *** DO NOT DELETE AD ACTIVATION EMAIL *** The activation email has links so you can delete your posting when it is no longer needed and edit it if required.
- 8. Upgrades - Additional upgrades are available for an additional fee, but the basic ad is free and last for 45 days.
- 9. Payment - If payment is required for upgrades, a link to Paypal will be displayed on the next page to proceed with payment. NOTE: if payment is not made and verified by us, ad upgrades will not be activated. Follow the Paypal instructions for paying fees. No Paypal account is required.
How much does it cost to post an ad?
Posting a "Basic Ad" is FREE for 45 days. If you decide to purchase upgrades those fees vary.
How do I pay for ad posting upgrades?
Payment is required for upgrades immediately after the "Post Now" button pressed. We accept all major credit cards through Paypal for paying upgrade fees. You do NOT need a Paypal account to pay for your posting's fees. Paypal is a subsidiary of eBay, so rest assured that your private and financial information is in good hands. PLEASE NOTE: we do not store or process personal or financial information on our servers.
How can I edit my posting?
A link to edit your posting can be found in the ad activation email that was sent to you regarding your ad.
Note: Editing your post will not bring it to the top of the list. You'll need to post a new listing for that (please, no more often than every 24 hours).
How can I delete my posting?
A link to delete your posting can be found in the ad activation email that was sent to you regarding your ad.
Please note: all postings are automatically deleted upon expiration, 45 days after a postings creation.
How long does my posting stay on the site?
All posting are active, searchable and viewable for 45 days or until deleted by you or flagged down as inappropriate by the community.
How do I repost my posting?
You'll need to submit a new posting; we do not repost a listing for you.
How often can I post?
You may post to one category and in one city, no more often than about every 24 hours.
How can I post anonymously and still receive responses?
When submitting a posting, you are asked to provide your email address. We've provided three options for you under this field:
- - Do not display my email
- - Do not display my email but allow users to contact me through the contact form
- - Display my email on the site
Your email address appears in your posting just as you have typed it.
A. The contact form relays inquiries to your actual email address.
B. If no email address is shown at all - you'll need to provide contact information in your posting.
Selecting options a & b will guarantee anonymity, but only the options b & c options allows you to receive emails.
I published my posting but I don't see it on the list?
All postings are activated as soon as you click on the activation link in the ad activation email sent regarding your posting.
If your posting does not appear in the category where you posted it, try to REFRESH or RELOAD your browser. The refresh/reload option is usually located along the top of your browser. If you do not see it there, try clicking the right button on your mouse. If you do not refresh/reload, you might not be seeing the most current version of the page and you will not see your posting.
Can I add a picture to my posting?
Yes you can add images to up to two images per posting that are 100 kb in size or less. They can be either jpeg or gif formats.
If you need include more images in your posting's description using HTML <img> tag, the picture must already be on a site someplace. There are many free web hosting sites on the internet where you can upload your picture, just type in "free picture hosting" into your search engine. Make sure that the site allows you to link to their site from another. If it's on a site, say on www.homeserviceclassifieds.com, in a directory called /images, and named logo.jpg, your code would look like this in your description:
<img src="http://www.homeserviceclassifieds.com/images/logo.jpg">
Your image will appear in your posting; just the Sell-A-Thingy logo appears below.
Can I use HTML tags in my posting?
If you want, you can use HTML sparingly. We don't try to wrap HTML around your URLs if we see HTML tags including <a>, <li>, <p>. We just pass through your HTML unchanged.
Please use only the HTML you'd use in the <body> of a document, no <title> <head> <script> or anything like that. We do not allow JavaScript, applets, Flash, or other embedded non-HTML content.

What is Flagging?
Sell-A-Thingy provides free and almost instantaneous self-publishing of postings, subject only to our Terms of Use and other posted guidelines.
Our flagging system allows the Sell-A-Thingy community to flag inappropriate postings for speedy removal, while preserving everyone's ability to express themselves freely and in a timely fashion.
By using the flagging feature located at the upper right corner of each post, you can take action if you feel a posting is inappropriate or falls into one of the categories below.
- - Categorized Wrong - wrong category/site, discusses another ad, otherwise misplaced
- - Prohibited - violates Terms of Use or other posted guidelines
- - Over Posted - posted too frequently, in multiple cities/categories, or is too commercial
If a post receives enough negative flags it will automatically be removed (only one flag per person per post is counted).
Posters whose postings are repeatedly flagged are subject to staff review and additional remedial measures.
We realize no moderation system is perfect, and 1-2% of ads removed through flagging system are within our Terms of Use - but without the flagging system, Sell-A-Thingy would become unusable.
Flagged postings that meet our guidelines and Terms of Use may be reposted, reworded as necessary.
Why was my posting deleted?
There are 3 possible reasons:
- - Your post expired.
- - Your post was flagged for removal by users and/or staff.
- - You deleted the post yourself.
How do I get my posting at the top again?
To get your posting at the top, you need to delete you old posting and then submit an entirely new posting similar to the one you deleted.
Where is my Ad Activation email?
If you have successfully submitted your posting and still have not received the email to publish your post, here are some things to consider:
- - If you are using a free email account (like Hotmail and Yahoo), make sure you have not exceeded your mailbox storage limit, and check your bulk/junk/spam mail folder(s).
- - Make sure you entered your email address correctly on the posting form - it only takes one typo!
- - Some email providers and ISPs have implemented "spam filters" which we have found are often badly designed or configured incorrectly, sometimes resulting in Sell-A-Thingy emails being intercepted.
- - Network problems between ISPs can delay email transmission, sometimes for many hours - consider stretching, getting some fresh air and checking back later.
